Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir, BWV 131
(Out of the depths I cry to Thee, O Lord)

This concert, originally scheduled for Oct. 27 and postponed due to weather, has been rescheduled for March 8. We hope to see you there!

This is an early work, possibly written as a memorial for the town of Mühlhausen following a large fire. Bach lifts us musically from the depths of grief and lamentation. He creates inspiring interplay between soloists and collective voices, and a dramatic linking of several movements, foreshadowing his “operatic” style so prevalent in his later works.

About the Cantata Insights Series

Colorado Bach Ensemble’s “Cantata Insights Series” gives audiences an opportunity to learn more about Bach’s many cantatas. In these popular and educational concerts, Artistic Director James Kim has a special way of explaining what he knows, drawing you into the wonders of Bach’s music. After James gives his insights on a “guided tour” through one of the cantatas, the ensemble performs the work in its entirety, giving the audience a fresh perspective on one of Bach’s magnificent works.
